New Look at Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury Gameplay
Following Tuesday's trailer, Nintendo has released a new Overview Trailer that dives deeper into Bowser's Fury and new features for the original game.
The most notable features being Online play and Snapshot mode.
Online play allows you to play with up to four of your friends online. From what I can gather from the trailer it seems the player hosting is the only one who will receive progression though. If you join your friends session and complete a level together it may not carry over to your file if you are not the host. You will more than likely have to repeat the level again alone or with a buddy locally.
Snapshot Mode is, of course, Super Mario 3d World’s photo mode. Operating similarly to how Super Mario Odyssey’s mode did, you can zoom in, rotate, add filters and logos too. Since Miiverse is a thing of the past (oh how I miss you) stamps found throughout levels are now used to decorate your beautiful pictures.
The new trailer also offers more insight into the story and what you’ll be doing in Bowser's Fury.
The expansion takes place in the Kingdom of Cats, spread across a vast lake it hosts a range of islands for you to explore. Bowser is here, but he must be a dog person because he is absolutely furious. Mario and Bowser Jr, who can be controlled by a second player, team up to collect Cat Shines scattered across the kingdom. Collecting the Cat Shines will allow Mario to break the seal on the Giga Cat Bell. The new Power-Up that will transform Mario into Super Saiya-, I mean, Giga Cat Mario. It’s the only way Mario can stand a chance against Bowser’s new furious form.
Nintendo will also be re-releasing Cat Mario and Cat Peach amiibo which will grant players with helpful Power-Ups when used in game.
Thanks to a new trailer released by Nintendo this morning, we now have a better idea of what to expect with the new Bowser’s Fury add-on included with the re-release of Super Mario 3D World. Super Mario 3D World released on the Wii U back in 2013 to great response. However, because of the Wii U’s poor performance, many fans have not played the acclaimed Mario game. The new 3D World port includes the base Wii U game as well as a new experience for both first-time and returning players to enjoy.
That aforementioned new experience is Bowser's Fury. Containing a pretty sizable world to explore, Mario and Bowser Jr. team up to defeat a massive and slightly more intimidating version of the Koopa King. The trailer highlights the trouble you’ll get up to with your temporary sidekick, Bowser Jr. Featuring the wonderful visuals you’d expect from Nintendo, along with fun boss battles, fun platforming, and of course, cats! The trailer concludes with the Bigger Badder Bowser awakening from its evil nap to take on a recently transformed gigantic Cat Mario!
The Switch port of the 3D World also includes an online co-op mode so you can play with your friends during quarantine!
Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury will release February 12th, 2021.
