Items in this category came out hot at their debut, but have simmered down a bit as the months roll on without anything new on the table. We’re hoping to learn more about new software, intriguing titles surrounding a gaming legend, and info on the latest edition to a now-classic series.
Virtual reality is no longer confined to the world of science-fiction. Slowly but surely, more and more VR units are hitting the market. Playstation VR made waves alongside the compatible Resident Evil 7 as it plunged players into an up-close-and-personal horror experience.
So, what’s next? At this point, we know that high-quality games are capable of coexisting with VR units. But, who’s going to take that next step and bring something extra innovative to the table? Will Hello Games put us right into our spaceships by announcing VR-compatibility for No Man’s Sky? Will a AAA-title, similar to Resident Evil 7, take the plunge into virtual reality? Or will the gaming world get blown away by a possibility we haven’t even considered yet? Regardless of the VR presence at E3, it’s an exciting time to be a tech fan and a gamer.
Hideo Kojima is a legendary figure in the gaming industry. At the risk of sounding like a total dweeb, he makes art; not just video games. One only has to look at his latest effort, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, to see the sheer level of detail he weaves into his creations.
The future seemed uncertain for Kojima, though, after he split from Konami in 2015 and re-established Kojima Productions as an independent studio. At last year’s E3, Kojima himself announced the title of his studio’s new, PS4 exclusive game; Death Stranding. Gamers were treated to a trailer featuring a naked Norman Reedus and babies that had seen better days. Since then, we’ve received another teaser – this one with Guillermo del Toro – and…not much else.
Unfortunately, it’s rumored that Death Stranding will be skipping E3 this year. Even if we have to wait for more information on Kojima’s latest project, keep your eyes peeled if you’re a fan of speculation. No one has a clue what type of title Death Stranding will be, but it’s sure to be a fun, hype-filled ride as we chug toward a release date.

Metal Gear Survive
You gotta feel bad for the Metal Gear Survive team. Even if they create an amazing game, they’re sure to be plagued by constant comparisons to Hideo Kojima and his work before he left the Metal Gear series.
Reception the teaser material accompanying Survive has been mixed. Though Konami Europe president Tomotada Tashiro promised a ‘fresh take’ on the series’ acclaimed stealth elements, fans are skeptical. The world of Metal Gear is no stranger to oddities and the paranormal, but Survive laid it on pretty thick with a trailer containing wormholes and zombie-like creatures sprouting up all over Mother Base. The game promises engrossing multiplayer content, as well as an option for solo play to appease lone wolves.
However, the team behind Survive is definitely fighting an uphill battle. Continuing a legendary series without the man who gave it life will be difficult, no matter how good the men and women working on it are. Perhaps more details will crop up at E3 and win over the Metal Gear faithful.
A New Assassin’s Creed?
Ubisoft has confirmed that a new Assassin’s Creed is well on the way. A recent Reddit post, showcasing a supposed reservation card, has potentially revealed the title as Assassin’s Creed: Origins, as well as evidence on an Ancient Egyptian theme.
It seems like the next logical step. We’ve been all over Europe, America, the Middle East, and more; yet the series still hasn’t touched the iconic Ancient Egyptian culture.
The series has enjoyed steady success, but many fans would argue it hasn’t managed to recapture the magic of the Ezio trilogy. Black Flag was widely praised for its unique take on the typical Assassin’s Creed setting; perhaps hitting the sands of Egypt will breathe a little life into what’s become one of the defining series of the past decade.
